Fast Foto 3.0: Trouble Shooting

This article looks at problems that stop the Fast Foto application from being installed and running correctly.

Navigate down the page to the JAVA section if you do not use Internet Explorer.

1. Internet Explorer (ActiveX) version of Fast-Foto
fails during installation: red cross is displayed instead of the
control. Why?

There can be several reasons:

Too Strict Security Settings

Internet
Explorer can be configured to prohibit installation of ActiveX
controls. Typically this configuration is default on server editions of
Windows (like Windows 2003). Also, in some corporate networks, the security policy may stop ActiveX plugins being installed.

Note

Default security settings on workstations (like Windows XP) allows installing signed ActiveX controls.

To check whether security settings are OK, follow these steps:

  1. Open Tools -> Internet Options menu in Internet Explorer.
  2. Switch to Security tab.
  3. Click Custom Level button.
  4. Make sure that:
    • The Download signed ActiveX controls radio button is Prompt or Enable.
    • The Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins radio button is Enable or Prompt.
    • The Script ActiveX controls marked safe for ‘scripton’ radio button is
      Enable or Prompt.
Note

These steps are written for Internet Explorer version 6. In other versions menus and buttons may slightly differ.

Firewall Software

Some
firewall software may be configured to block any ActiveX controls met
on the page the user loads. If you have some firewall installed, check
out its settings or contact your system administrator regarding this
problem.

2. FireFox (Java) Version of Fast-Foto fails to be installed. Why?

Several reasons can cause this problem:

Java Runtime Environment Is Not Installed

Java
version of Fast-Foto requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
version 1.4 or later. If it is not installed, no Java applet will run.

Java Applets Are Disabled in Browser Settings

Most
browsers allow users to disable Java applets. Make sure whether Java
applets are enabled in your browser settings (varies from browser to
browser).

Certain Mac Browsers Require Additional Plugins

If
you experience problems with Java version installation on Mac, keep in
mind, that some Mac browsers do not support JRE 1.4 by default. To have
these browsers to work with JRE 1.4, it is necessary to install
additional plugins:

Note

The following Mac browsers already have built-in JRE 1.4 support:

  • Safari
  • Firefox version 1.5 or later
  • Camino version 1.0 or later
  • Seamonkey
