SPS will not allow you to register or assign a domain name that is already associated with another property website anywhere in the system (your account or someone elses!) UNTIL you have disconnected it from the old SPS site.
Even if the name has recently expired, you will not be able to register it, nor assign it to your website until the existing connection between it and the other (old) site have been removed.
Disconnecting a domain name does not affect the Registration Status of the domain name – i.e. if it is a registered domain name, then it is still registered. Also this process does not renew the domain name, it merely re-assigns the way it is used in the SPS system.
To Do This:
1. Disconnect the domain name from the old site.
To do this,
- Go to: My Account > Manage Domain Names (right side menu)
(OR – Alternatively, Go to EDIT the site currently with the domain name, and click the “Domain Name” menu item. Now go to step-3) - Click the MANAGE link for your domain name
- Click the “disconnect” option to disconnect the domain name from the current site.
This will then automatically ‘free-up’ that domain name to be used elsewhere in our system.
NOTE: At this point, the domain name is still known by the SPS system, but it will not show up in your “List of Domains”.
2. Re-Assign the Domain name
Now, return to the original website you were creating and go to the ‘domain name’ page for this site.
On the Set a Domain Name panel, look for the blue text link to “use the domain name you already have registered”.
Click this link and enter the domain name here and SAVE.
Your property site is now set with this domain name.
